The client originally planned to establish a foundation and develop an art museum on this site. The primary design challenge was the preservation of a magnificent White Champak already growing on the property. Rather than treating the tree as a constraint, architect Hsiao chose to make it the central figure of the project, shifting the building volume to one side and allowing the tree to remain the true protagonist of the landscape.
A circular pathway unfolds around the White Champak, gradually ascending alongside a reflecting pool and guiding visitors through the canopy. The circulation becomes a journey between architecture and nature, allowing people not merely to observe the tree, but to experience its scale and presence through movement.
